"I am slowly learning the art of looking at things from a different perspective in photography. Early one morning we stopped at one of the bird hides in the Kruger National Park, and it was a very cold morning indeed. There was mist rising from the water in the sweet golden light of the morning, and I spotted a pair of hippopotami partly submerged in the water. However I was at an awkward elevated angle, that would not show the mist to good effect. Fortunately, I noticed that there was a spar missing from the wall of the hide at ground level, and by lying flat on my belly I could get a much better angle through this gap. The floor was cold, but it was worth it when I captured this image!"

"It was a cloudy winter’s morning in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, when we decided to stop at the bird hide at Lake Panic near Skukuza Rest Camp. There were a number of hippopotami in the water that morning. After observing them for a while, this mother and calf appeared to share an affectionate moment, which I was able to capture. I was touched by the tenderness and affectionate nature of the moment, as I am aware that hippos normally use open-mouth behaviour as a sign of aggression. This did not appear to be the case in this interaction."
